Yes, if you are VISITING California, you can drive on your Jordanian license for upto one year. If you take a job, you need to get a CA license.

If you are renting a car in CA, tell the rental company that you want to buy insurance also. It's very unlikely that insurance from Jordan will cover you over here.

Check with California DMV(Driver's Motor Vehicle Facility). They will be able to give the information to you.

About insurance, you will have to have the insurance when you rent a car, or else you won't be able to generally. All questions direct it to California DMV. Best of luck.

if you are working in CA you got 30 days to get a CA license and you must have a valid CA insurance policy now to be legally correct and law-a-biddin' .......
