OK ~ how old was your child before you let them completely shower alone? I mean from starting the water to hair washing, body washing, hair drying, etc. ?

My two step daughters ages 6 and 4 bathe alone-well actually together. Either me or daddy turns on the water and then they do the rest. Of course the door does stay open and we do check in. But having two of them makes it easier, then can help each other wash their hair and they tell on each other if one is not washing up properly.

I don't really think it is an "age" issue, it's more of a "stage" issue. Whenever our children reached the stage where we felt confident that they could handle all the tasks involved in showering on their own, we began to permit it. One of us stayed near the bathroom during their showers in case they had a problem - and to ensure that actual WASHING was going on :) - for a few days. Then after that they were fine.

I think the oldest one of our kids was about 8, and the middle one (a boy) was 8, then the littlest one was about 9.

Hope this helps.

I didn't start showering alone until I was 6 or 7. I've got a friend who lets her 3 year old shower alone, and she does just great. ("Alone" is a loose word here - the door stays open.) I think it just depends on your child.

My son is 5. I turn the water on for him and wash his hair.
Other than that he washes his body, turns off the water, and dries off completely by himself. However, the bathroom door is open at all times and I'm checking in frequently while he's in there.

my little girl is 8 and she showers alone, she has been for the past year or so. i mean she leaves the restroom door open just in case she needs me, but she normally does fine on her own.
