My husband will have 7 years of active duty service in July 2009. He is thinking of getting out after this next deployment, and going to school full-time to try and get his bachelor's degree. He plans to stay in either national guard or reserves during the 2 years it will probably take to complete the degree. He then plans to go to OCS and go back in as an officer in Army. He was 17 when he joined.Instead of age 37, around what age would it be with about 2 years reserves/NG?(in other words, how is retirement computed as a reservist/combined with active duty?). Thanks.

Reserve/NG time will help out with pay, but not in retirement. Your husband needs to have 20+ ACTIVE years, and the other time will help, but not as much.

If he completes a total of 20 years service, active and reserve, he will be eligible for the same pension as that afforded to active duty members. But, because he is going onto the Retired List from a Reserve or Guard component, he will not be able to draw that pension until his 55th birthday.

you will no longer get plenty interior the reserves for retirement, you will get what you earn for a drill weekend, so if I have been given $a hundred and fifty.00 as a SPC for a drill weekend, then that's what you will get each month....wow! only circulate lively accountability it extremely is well worth it to retire!!! My hubby makes $1300.00 a month on appropriate of his contractor examine.

If he is planing on coming back in as an officer he needs to look at Green To Gold program it is a better option then just getting out. tell him to go to AKO and do a green to gold search and there is an applacation and info
