I've bought a diffuser for a Nikon SB600 flash. (I didn't spend much, but I'd like to see if there is an all-around comparable flash unit that is cheaper but just as good as it.) Thanks!

In terms of performance, you will find any number of brands that will give you similar performance, but what will be lacking is that the SB600 is part of the Nikon Creative Lighting System. You probably won't find a third party flash that communicates with your camera the way the SB600 does. By going outside the Nikon Creative Lighting System you lose most of the automatic functions available for the SB600.

I so agree with the previous two posters. I have a Sunpak 4000 that I use on a N6006. It is a great flash, but I use it on manual most of the time. Just get the SB600, or SB800 if you need the power, and consider it money well spent.

You're not going to find a unit that has comparable features like the wireless capability. And Nikon's flash technology is pretty much the best in its market, way ahead of Canon's.
