isnt that a quote from lord of war. but anyways you could easily arm them just tell everyone to go to walmart im fairly certain they have more weapons and ammunition that our forces in iraq. It would prolly end up being safer cause what moron criminal will try to rob someone who may actually shoot back.

"The constitutions of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property and freedom of the press." --Thomas Jefferson
P.S. There appears to be some confusion about the wording of the second amendment. At the time the US Constitution was written, the meaning of the word "militia" was different than it is today. At the time, the militia meant all able-bodied males between the age of 18 and 45, considered eligable for military service.
There were no standing armies at the time, and in cases of emergency, the town bell was rung to the alarm, and all able bodies males were expected to immediately assemble in the town common with their arms.
In fact, in Massachusetts, the state law (still on the books for some reason) provides for Towns and Cities to "call out the (local) militia".
As to whether it is still a necessary duty for the population to keep arms, that is a question that is still open, and through experimentation in our different states, which are trying very different directions, we will certainly find out which course is better.

Some of the eleven may not qualify on the basis of prior criminal conviction or mental deficiency...
Someone tell Rob that the ''militia'' part of the Second Amendment referred to the citizens of the country, not the Army or National Guard.
''A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.''
Get the quote right at least.

"There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That's one firearm for every twelve people on the planet. The only question is: How do you arm the other eleven?" -- Lord of War
#1 - don't take move facts for granted.
Example: a UN-backed survey estimates (there is no way of knowing with any degree of certainty) that there are approximately 639,000,000-640,000,000 small arms in the world according to recent data
Source: http://www.smallarmssurvey.org/
The CIA estimates world population as of July 2007 at 6,602,224,175
Source:https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/print/xx.html
Going with the low estimate of 639 million, that means that an estimated ratio of small arms to persons is 1 in 10.33 (rounded). However, small arms are not equally distributed.
Answer: stop US sponsoring totalitarian, misguided, and genocidal governments from restricting civilian firearm ownership and ESPECIALLY from destroying firearms

You can bet the govs aren't destroying *their* guns.

Why is arming the eleven people per 12 an issue? It is my constitutional right to bear arms. Meaning I can choose whether or not I do. I am not obligated to carry a weapon. I do not live a lifestyle where I need to fear imminent death.

This isn't the wild west. We do not have gunfights in the streets. There is no reason for anyone in this day and age to walk around with a concealed weapon.
One out of 12? I don't believe that ratio for a minute. Even if it were, I would think it much more important to take it away from that population than to arm the rest.
Guns have one purpose. That is to kill people. If we don't plan on killing anyone, we don't need a gun.
We are a civilized society, not a group of survivalists. Survivalists need to go to somewhere isolated and be survivalists without endangering the rest of us with our guns.
As for the right to bear arms, this is what it says:
"A well ordered militia being necessary, the right to bear arms shall not be abridged"
We have a well ordered militia. It is called the US Army.
If the constitution was carte blanche to carry a gun it would have said,"You have unrestricted rights to walk around with a gun, and shoot the head off anyone who pisses you off"
But it doesn't say that. The caveat is the well ordered milita being necessary. And unless you are part of that well ordered militia, called the US Army, you do not have the right to walk around with a gun.
Sorry!

Less than 10% of the population wouldn't even cover for cops & military personnel. The ideas you have stated don't even come close. Did you account for gangs, stolen firearms, households with multiple arms, kids with weapons? Idiots like you don't need guns, you need education! A large part of us know that a weapon is anything & everything you are in reach of! If it distracts attention you can bet I would have you sodomized with your own weapon! CHASE THAT STAT PUNK!!!!

i agree. I think of it this way: would a criminal want to break into a house, rob someone, rape their wives and/or children in a city where there is no ban on good, honest citizens owning guns, or a city where every honest citizen has turned them in?

LOL.... I agree.
Honest people should always be allowed to have guns!
What cracks me up is the cities with the tightest gun laws have the highest gun related criminal offenses.

Personally I do not feel the need to have a gun and you can't force me to have one. Stay out of my home and mind your own business.
Ps I live in New York City, which is NOT a High gun crime city.
