The kbb.com and other website list used car private party value to be way high and no one is willing to pay. When all things are equal, i.e. car runs well, no known problems, no dings or no major accidents, there ought be a place to determine what that car is worth.

Go to www.kbb.com. Use the trade in value. Use the apprasial form to determine values.
I found that it shows $1000 to 1800 trade in depending on condition.

Unfortunately, a 12 year minivan does not hold its value very well (you're competing against 1000's of other family vehicles in the same condition). I would think 1200 would be about right if it was in good condition (no one goes looking for a Mercury Villager, so you have no leverage).
