A lot of the time at wedding receptions, the whole reason for getting everyone together is overlooked! I want my wedding guests to know how my fiance and I met, and the story of our love! I'm trying to think of a unique way to tell everyone! I'm not into making speeches, but I was thinking of maybe typing up a cute story on stationary and leaving one at each place setting? I don't know! Does anyone else have any unique ideas to help our guests get to know us and our story a little better?! Thanks!!

You could do it with pictures, if you've got them available.

Or - to promote mingling at your wedding - take your idea of typing up the story, but put pieces of it at different places at the reception. That way anyone who wants to know the whole story has to get up and look around. If they get up, they'll meet the people who are special to you and that's continue your special story.

A story in the wedding program is good. I also like the slide show idea. I made a HUGE slide show for my friend's wedding about a year ago. It started out with pictures of the bride and groom as babies and kids. Then it was pictures of them together through out their relationship. The one I made didn't have any words in it, but it would be so easy to add in stuff about where the pictures were taken, and what ever else you want guests to know. You can even go out and take new picutes if you don't have them, like of the palce you met, or where he proposed. Also ask friends and family members to give you pictures that you may no have copies of.

My fiance and I are making a program that has an "about me" and "about him" section, as well as a "how we met" and "the proposal" section.

Not only will it inform the guests of the schedule of events and who is in the wedding party, it will also be something to read while waiting for the ceremony to start!

This is what my fiance and I are doing...we started with theknot.com and built a wedding webpage. We were able to give our story along with a bit more than the names of our attendant's...aside from it being a practical central information point- we have been able to "introduce" our relationship (our guest list spans over 3000 miles- we both have people on our lists that are important to each of us, but distance hasn't made meeting possible yet)

During the reception itself, we are using photographs- framed, varying sizes as one of the main decorating touches. Each photo will have a short "story" about the person (they won't just be of my fiance and I)...

We think it makes it very personal and allows for good conversation starters!

good luck

I believe all our wedding guests knew we met in the laundromat four months before. An album on a separate table with pix and story would allow those wished to to look at it. A speech or slide show seems invasive for those who already know.

For our 10th anniversary we are doing a long folded piece of paper (basically a letter sized piece folded in half legnth wise)and on one side is our "timeline" and the other is our menu. The timeline side starts with the day we met back in 1991 and goes over our milestones, like first date, engagement date, wedding, purchas eof our first home, 1st daughter, 2nd daughter etc. to the present date which will be our 10th anniversary and at the end we have written a small note of thanks to everyone for joining us that night as well as sharing in the events of our lives with us. One the opposite side is our dinner menu course by course as well as the bar and champagne fountain information. Each card will sit at a place setting.

I dont recommend the slideshow, they get very boring after about 5 minutes and are only interesting and fun for the two of you and anyone else who might be in a picture (like your parents and brothers and sisters) everyone else will sit there twidling their thumbs.

That's a cute idea. Type up a nice little story, maybe title it "The Story of Us". Print it out on pretty paper (that goes with your wedding colors) and leave it for everyone to read.

I have seen slide shows, that start with childhood pictures and
then together as a couple. You could either leave it outside in the hallway placing on a monitor in a loop, or show it during the reception on a larger screen.

It is fairly common, I decided it against it. Videographer was going to do it.

That's a sweet idea. What about a poem set to beautiful music?? You and your hubby can each recite a part together in front of your guests. There won't be a dry eye in the room!

A suggestion.... instead of worrying about sending out thank you cards after all is said and done. why dont you have scrolls made up with the little story, the date, and thank you for your love in the start of our new life together.. tie them with a ribbon from one of the colors in your wedding and attach a single rose, color to match wedding. have them in a big basket on the card table. then during the reception have the bridesmaids, maid of honor and yourself go around and pass them out. then you have combined two things into one. your story and the thank you card/scroll (and you dont have the worry of the thank you cards and the postage, which we know is not cheap now a days.)
oh yea, and this needs to be done the night before the wedding, for the flowers.... i wish you luck in your new life
