You should definitely get a tattoo that symbolizes something important and enduring to you - a design that you can be proud to wear for the rest of your life. And I second the idea that you should get it somewhere on your body that is easily covered up. People still judge others based on outward appearances, and tattoos seem to draw a lot of negative attention. I have a tattoo of a beautiful butterfly on my lower back and my best friend has an identical one. To us, it is a symbol of our wonderful friendship and the freedom that we feel to be ourselves when we are together. I like the location because I only show it off when I want to, its even low enough that most swimsuits cover it. I'm sure that you will make the right decision when the time comes, but I do urge you to carefully consider all the pros and cons.

Well, since you'll likely have the tattoo for the rest of your life, consider what you love and are passionate about, but keep your perspective on the future. (I.E.: Will you still think it's cool in 30 years? 50?) One thing I would recommend is to get a tattoo to express a life philosophy, something you really believe in.

I wouldn't rush into getting a tattoo just for the sake of having one.
However, if you're really certain that you do want one, have it on like your ankle or something so it's not too obvious (in case you regret it later in life...).
Simple shapes are usually the best because they won't look tacky, e.g. a couple of stars.

dont get a tattoo just for the purpose of getting one. people think of something that rele matters to them AND THEN they wonder if they should get it as a tattoo. also getting a tattoo becuase "its cool" or "looks sexy" is kinda disrespectful to tattoo artists who expects thier work not to be taken for granted.

You know, a tatoo should reflect your personality, who you are as a person. Don't get something that other people think are cute or whatever. You'll regret it later on. Plus, it's pretty expensive to get them removed.

You don't have to have a reason for a tattoo. They don't need to signify anything. I got mine because I wanted to have some ink. Not because someone died or because I had a change in life.
