For advantages-experience. As for psyching myself I don't usually have to although I found that useful early in my fighting and competition career. Now a-days I just turn it on and off like a faucet.

Prior to that the psyche thing was a little more of a factor and so I used a number of things. One thing that was a big help was that I always knew that I was as prepared as possible since I had always taken adequate time to train and prepare for fights and/or big tournaments. Not having that hang over your head is a big plus right off the bat. I also used some positive thinking and motivational tapes that gave me some good mental skills to more adequately deal with the situation and not be so anxious. Along with this visualization was another thing that I used. Coupled with that I would also write down what my game plan was in a few sentences along with a few key words and what it was I wanted to try and do. I would then read that over and run it through in my mind prior to the fight or tournament. As my experience grew I psyched myself less and relied on the other things more since I could just turn it on and off like a faucet.

Anyone that thinks they have a nearly totally unfair advantage is either suffering from delusions of grander, or they are CHEATING.

The only thing that really matters is how much effort you put into your training in preparation for a fight.

I train as hard as I possibly can.
