That's right... He doesn't HAVE to do this, but that is what He decided to do. Somethings He hasn't told us (yet) the reasons why... but we will know in the future.
As for convincing you, this is something that you must come to the conclusion of your own volition and understanding. To say it's better for Him to stay one is a "judgement call" on your part, but obviously God decided it was better for Him to be Three.
Christianity is different, that is true. However, as the Lord has revealed Himself to us (us=all humanity), it is our (Christians) understanding that He has revealed Himself to be Three yet One. It certainly does set us apart from ALL other religions and faiths of the world, which is why Jesus told us to go out into all the world and teach them about Him.
I'm not going to try to explain the Trinity concept here, because that is not what you are asking about. Nor am I trying to "shove it down" ANYONE's throat... which seems to be a popular charge. It's up to you. Wanna know more? Ask. Otherwise... time for me to return to my knitting.

Well... no, God doesn't have to do this. But it's kinda like asking why he made the grass green instead of orange.
The three=one thing is just His nature. Myself, I would never presume to tell God it was "better for him to stay one," any more than I would think I was in a position to say it was better for him to make grass orange.
And I bet you can have a real good, healthy relationship with God w/o totally buying the trinity thing: I don't see it as a deal-breaker with God. :)

All Christians don't believe in the trinity. Those that relay on the bible as their guide only believe in Jehovah as God Almighty and Jesus Christ his son. I guess your religion doesn't believe in a messiah, so do you have to offer sacrifices for atonement of sin?
To the person that said Catholic was the first Christian religion, you need to read something out side of your Catholicism. Christianity was the first christian religion. It became Christendom after the Catholics adopted it.

Its not convincing that you need, its more acceptance by love and faith. Then through hearing and reading more of the Word of God, the Holy Bible, I think you will come to KNOW HIM as tripartyte. Father. Son and Holy Ghost. Peace.

The trinity is a pagan belief given a Christian title. It has no basis from the Bible. Jesus himself said, "My Father is greater than I." (John 14:28)
The reason for so many believing in it is due to Satan's influence. He wants people to turn away from true worship. The crazier the belief, the further away people become. Add to that the laziness of many to accept what family has told them since birth, and you have so many accepting 1+1+1=1.

God is one. If a true Christian dies, they become one with Him. It's like, take a sheet on paper, tear it into strips, the strips represent the Christians. The paper itself is God. Place the strips back together and you have God. Even tho the strips are separate, they are still one.

First, Christianity is not a religion. God is God and he can do anything he wants so he made himself into Jesus to come back to earth and he made himself spirit for us to communicate with him. That's the nutshell version.

H20 has three forms.
H20 can be liquid, steam, and ice, but it is still H20.
It may change its shape, but regardless its shape or form it is still and will always remain H20.
Almighty God is three in one.
Regardless His form or shape He is and will always remain Almighty God.
