I was in the Marines for 4 years and went to Iraq twice.
The situation over there is not the same as it was when the "war" kicked off a few years ago. You may not even deploy. Plus, as someone else said, they don't send chicks to the front. I was in the rear with the gear. Not that that's a bad thing. We still worked our butts off.
But even if you don't deploy, it's a great opportunity and you can meet some life long friends and experience things that no one else could.
Go talk to a recruiter if you're really interested. Don't let boot camp or basic training scare you. That's the easy part.
Good luck!

Hey, the War is over , now it is a police and security force there, where are brave men and women cant use the necessary means to obliterate the enemy, War is a dirty business, insanity at its finest, many many people die in war, innocent civilians and well trained soldiers, there are no front lines anymore, no trenches, and our enemies have no honor, what really needs to happen in a war, the United States doesnt allow due to rules of engagement and the Geneva Convention and The Law of War, which only civilized Nations follow, so, if you really think that you would like to do it, by all means , enlist, and become a Soldier, its a great way of life.

If you're already in the miltary, then the choice may not be yours to make.
If not, I suggest staying away. This war is NOT about terrorism. I repeat: NOT about terrorism. The terrorists that attacked us are in Saudi Arabia and along the Pakistan/Afghanistan border but BushCo isn't going there because we have had an oil deal with Saudi Arabia since WWII and there's no oil in Afghanistan, plus we've already secured the pipeline we built through that country.
We are fighting in Iraq for 2 reasons:
1. To try and prop up the US/Iraqi government which will give our oil cartels rights to Iraqi oil. Iraqi's don't want this and are fighting their government and us over it.
2. To salvage Bush Jr's history by letting another president end his tragic blunder.

Why don't you go to a nearby recruiter's office and learn more about being in the military? There's a lot more to it than just going to Iraq. I wouldn't ask other people to help you make such a huge decision because you're the one who's going to be living it. Good luck!!

I was there and as a female I got taken care of by my fellow Soldiers. I was only there 6 months and I missed home, you get nostalgic because there isn't much to do but, the pay was good :-) My husband and I finally got to go on our honeymoon we went to Korea for 2 1/2 weeks.
If it's just you no family then go you can always use some extra cash.

1st of all --- are you in the military?
2nd -- you do realize that women are not taken into combat, right?
If you are of age and not in the military, then first you must enlist. There is no guarantee that you will ever be sent to Iraq.

I think its good to go if your heart wants to be in that war.
If you wish to stay home, thats your choice. You live in America, you have a freedom to do what is best for you.

It's noble to think of going, but the choice is really up to. War's difficult and if you want to possibly lose your life for your country I applaude you. :)
