I've been charged $250 for buying jewelry, it says in my online card account, and I checked every reciept I have kept and certainly don't remember buying a jewelry. What should I do? I already called the bank and told them that I've been charged of something that I didn't buy and even called the store from where the jewelry was bought, and they just ignored my call. Answers are appreciated(:

You need to contact your credit card company NOW and get them to close the account, and send you a new card (with a different account number). You are not liable for more than $50 of an unauthorized charge in most states. Call them immediately. Don't let them talk you into keeping the account open under the existing number - that does NOT protect your rights. Also send them a notification by certified mail, just to cover your backside. A phone call should get them to stop the use of the account, but a letter is the only legally recognized proof of your contact with them.

The credit card company should not ignore your call. When you call, they'll either offer to send you a form to fill out (or tell you where you can download from their web site) or they'll automatically take the charge off.

Usually, you need to sign a form stating that you did not make the change.

By law, if you sign that you did not make the charge, you cannot be made to pay more than $50 of it. Most cards, these days, the amount is $0.

Of course, if you sign and they later find that you did make the charge, you could be prosecuted from fraud. Not that this is what'll happen in your case. Just that if the store can come up with a receipt that has your signature, you might have some explaining to do.

call the number on the back of your card....they shouldn't be ignoring you, sounds like maybe you got a hold of someone who doesn't know how serious this is.......call the number on the back of the card and ask for the "fraud department"...they should put a "stop" on your card (means it can no longer be used, not even by you), then you need to read the terms and conditions of your credit card and find out if any liabilty is yours, most cards these days have zero liability..but hurry....call immediately!!!!!!!

Send a letter to the credit card company disputing the charges. Do it in writing, as soon as possible. Right away. they will probably send you a form to fill out.

To preserve your rights you need to do it in writing and do it quickly.

You should also check your credit report to make sure no one has opened accounts in your name. Put a fraud alert on all three.
