I'm about to get laid off, but I will be receiving two months off paid with benefits as part of a severance package. What will you do for those two months if this happened to you?

This just happened to me actually. I immediately got another job and drew double checks. Also, by the time my insurance ran out on the severance, I was elligible for the new job's insurance. (with the double paychecks, I saved a bunch and bought the lap top that I am answering this question with...:-)

When I'm elected in 9 years (using my own degree, combined with my political knowledge) you're fired.

This did happen to me in May! I did not get as generous a severance package as you did, though. I only got two weeks pay. I had worked at a place for several years, only to find out the work was going overseas for cheap.

I spent those two months looking up my states unemployement benefits. Also, start telling your family and friends you are looking for a good job. Often that is the best way to find one!

Well, it IS fixin' to happen to me. I don't know what kind of severance package I'll be receiving, if any at all. But I would use that time to look for something else. I AM going to file for unemployment, though, just in case I can't find anything before it actually happens.

Look for a new job, go on a good vacation and either find a girl or surprise the one you have during the day for fun. Otherwise, watch TV, play video games and workout.

I would budget and save my money accordingly. While having fun and relaxing a little, I would look for another job. You should just relax and in the right time, God will provide a new job for you. = )

You really need to look around and see if you can stay in the industry you are in or do you need new skills for a new career. If you cannot stay in your current industry see what is available and if you need to get some new skills for that. See if you can get your company to pay for you to go back to school.

Uh, look for a new job? Unless I was independently wealthy, in which case I might take a long vacation.
