We were travelling home from the zoo today along this road. We were in the outside lane (only 2 lanes) and this stretch of the motorway bends sharply to the right. A tiny little baby deer just strolled out from grassland on our right, straight in front of us. Hubby was driving and steered as far to the right as he could but it was in the middle of our lane and we were almost on the grass but couldnt avoid it. The passenger front corner hit the poor little thing. I can't stop thinking of it. We were so close when it walked out and it all happened so fast that there was nothing else we could do. (We had all our children in the minibus at the time and were going about 65, and there was a car in the inside lane). There was no way we could even stop and check it and couldn't see what happened to the poor thing after because of the angle of the road.

We could have stopped on the hard shoulder but it was a dangerous bend and hubby was involved in a serious accident last year when his car got shunted by an HGV while he was getting out of it on the hard shoulder, so it probably wasn’t worth the risk. Anyway, when we got home, I reported it the motorway police who told me that they haven’t had anybody report seeing the deer and they haven’t been able to find his body. I can’t stop thinking about him lying there injured. (It was a hell of a bang). Has anybody travelling along there today seen the poor mite? It was 2 or 3 minutes before your reach the M6. I just want to know that he’s out of his misery.

I wouldn't worry too much.... we've all done it.

I ran over a cat once..... it ran out in front of the car... there was absolutely nothing I could do, didn't have enough time to swerve or move out of the way!

Felt really terrible for a few days... but these things happen I'm afraid!!

Rather the deer (or cat) than a person being killed because you had to swerve.

If you were doing 65mph, you shouldn't worry about it. It would have been very quick.
