I've written a persuasive essay and told them I'll pay for the whole thing. When I was younger we had rodents but it never worked out, but I"m older now and way more responsible. The last time we had rodents was like 3 years ago! I really want a hamster! How can I convince my parents I can get one?

I made a packet and a chart of what I would get my hamster, and my mom got really mad and said that I could get any pet I wanted when I moved out. But I really really want a hamster now! Any more suggestions on how to convince my mom?

well i have 2 dogs and 2 guinea pigs and my mom said we had too many pets. my neighbors gerbils had had babies abd she didnt know what to do with them so she was giving them to a snake breeder. my mom had known that i had wanted my neighbors gerbil for ever but she kept saying it was tooo much. so the day came when she was getting rid of all of her gerbils and i was heart broken. i had done A TON of reaserch on them and their was only 5 hours till the guy was coming to pick them up. so i sat my mom down and told her all the great things about them and how responsible i am an d how happy it would make me. and i had to talk really fast so she couldnt get a word in. any way after 10 minutes she finally said okay you and your sister go pick out one each. i have had them for 3 days and i love little sunny and stormy. also if that dosent work. you should obsess about it for as londg as it takes. reserch what they need and look at pics of them and go on to online petsupplies stores and look at the things they have when your parents are looking so they see your seriose. ask for one for your birthday,x mas, when you did somthing that makes them proud. i hoped i helped.

ps. pick me best answer. =]

Ok, so, I would recommend that next time you go to the store, get a BIG piece of cardstock, and, a binder. Also, if you don't have: glue, tape, markers, pagecovers, and some letter stickers, then, I would recommend that you get that too! Once you get back home, go on your computer and find information on hamsters. Also, if you have any books, magazines, or anything else that has information on hamsters, you should use those, too! Once you have a lot of information on hamsters, write paragraphs into your own words. Once you have this done, type it all on your computer and print it out. Put the typed papers into the page covers and put those in the binder! Next, you are going to get the BIG piece of cardstock. Make a chart showing which days will play with your hamster, feed your hamster, clean your hamster's cage and stuff like that! Use the markers to make the chart on the BIG piece of cardstock! Also, use the letter stickers to title the BIG piece of cardstock, such as: "My Hamster To Do List" at the top of the BIG piece of cardstock. Make or print off pictures of hamsters from your computer. If you make the pictures yourself, your parents might be more impressed! Glue or tape the pictures to the other side of the BIG piece of cardstock. Once you are all done, present your "research" to your parents. Show them the BIG piece of cardstock, and the pictures on the other side! Tell your parents that they can think it over for a few days if they want. Whie your parents are thinking it over, do extra chores, give your dog a bath, or anything that will help around the house! Don't keep asking your parents for a hamster, and wait until they start the subject of letting you get a hamster. This should work! I know that it has worked for other people that i have told!

Thanks, and good luck on getting your hamster! Thanks again,

Why didn't it work out last time? You'll need to convince your parents that it wont happen again. I actually went through the same thing when I was younger. I begged my parents for months. They actually got me one for Christmas and I was so happy. It was one of the best Christmases I can remember. All you can do it show them that it will be different. You can try the approach of saying you want something bigger, like a guinea pig, and talk them down to a hamster, but you might get the guinea pig and not actually want it. I even went behind my parents back and got a pet once (well twice) without getting their permission. I don't recommend that unless you have some very understanding parents. Good luck.

Other than the essay, maybe give them a schedule and a budget of what you plan on spending on it.

For example:

30 dollar cage
10 dollar hamster
5 dollar food
etc.

Every Monday cage cleaning
Add food Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Change of water Wednesday and Saturday
etc.

Another tactic is to figure out WHY they don't want you to have one. Smell? Responsibilities? Maybe they just don't want to keep it in the basement? Then after you decide why they don't want you to have it, come up with solutions to counter them. For example, say you'll change the cage shavings often, etc. and keep it in you room.

I've owned 2 hamsters in my life... both didn't last more than a year. They were dwarf hamsters and I suspect they were inbred and unhealthy (but only $3 each). But they were fun and cool while they lasted. Good luck convincing them! I know parents can be stubborn, but if you keep insisting on it and act very professional and mature about it.. I can't see why they would turn you down!

I am too begging my parents for one. I would buy a paper folder (19 cents at Zellers) collect all the info you need and also go through catalogs and things and find out

-what cage you want
-what kind of hamster you want
-how many hamsters you want
-what food
-accessories

And finally, add up the prices and save your money up for it. I would also help around the house to show how responsible you can be.

do alot of extra chores around the house without being asked. tell your parents that hamsters are very easy to take care of....... orrrrr... do what i did a long time ago. i went to the petstore, bought a hamster, then brought it home and told my mom i found it in the gutter. then i said "mom can we keep it? at the pound they will put it to sleep because its wild!!" then she said, "well, first we need to take it to the vet for a clean bill of health." so the hamster was fine and i got to keep it lol!!! but then it died about 5 months later. hahh. but im a proud owner of a golden syrian hammy right now!! Lol

Explain to your parents why you want it and how you're going to pay for it and care for it. If you tell them exactly how much it will cost, where you're going to buy it and stuff like that they may respond. Also, promise to care for them and explain how you plan to care for them if you have to go out of town. Hamsters arent that big of a responsibilty. If you're willing to clean the cage they should say yes.

i got a hamster 2 months ago. i convinced my parents by telling them they are quiet animals, very easy to care for, are clean animals, aren't expensive, and if you do alot of research that will tell them that you can have a hamster

do what i did. plan which cage your going to get, such as in a shop catalogue, and also how many hamsters you want, and tll them that you can afford it with your own money and will pay for food and bedding etc with your pocket money.

i told my parents this yesterday, and they really didnt want me to get one, but now im getting a pair of dwarf hammys tomorrow!
