No, it's not deadly. It is contagious for the first year though. She might have already had it for a while. I had mine for years before I found out what it was. The biggest complication I can think of is that your spleen gets larger, and is more susceptible to rupturing if you do something strenous, say, lifting way too heavy objects. You also have periods of extreme exhaustion. Mine always hits in the late fall.
Unless you eat or drink after her, or share lipstick/lipgloss, you should be fine. Regardless, it really isn't a big deal.
