old wiring:
line 1 red/green
line 2 yellow/black
new wiring
line 1 blue/white-blue
line 2 orange/white-orange
the new wiring may have additional pairs, green (line 3) brown (line 4) slate (line 5) red/blue-blue/red (line 6) etc......
from the NID to the jack green/red should connect to green/red OR green/red should connect to blue/white-blue (for single line operation)
for line 2 (if you have a second line) yellow/black to yellow/black, or yellow/black to orange/white-orange
if the jack works, but is using the wrong wiring, it is because of a repair that was made, your wire was proballay defective and the pair was changed on your inside wire...
if one pair dosent work you can try another pair.. but do not split a pair except as a last resource... (it may cause induction, and you may hear others in the back ground)
whatever is connected at one side of the wire must be connected the same way at the other side..

Well, there should be red, black, yellow, and green. That is the standard. Are you in an apartment house? If so, it is much more complex, but I will help you if that is the case. :)
At any rate, 2 wires will be your talk pair. :)
E-Mail me if you need more help.
If you have only 2 or 4 wires to work with, just experiment. Only 2 will work. :) If you are in an apartment with a whole bunch of wires in the wall, they go to all the apartments, and you will need help to find YOUR talk pair. :)
