Not an easy question to answer. Some "invest" in celebrity wines for "bragging rights," others actually want a wine they can hold till maturity and then drink and enjoy and a third group believe they can hold a wine as an investment and sell it much later.
There are few wines that can predictably increase in value to warrant the cost of maintaining it, so this is risky and not a wise investment strategy. Of course, if you are a Rothschild or Parker, you may have some investment clout and could actually guide the market value.

Money Gamblers.
Wine investment is a slippery slope. No one can tell which wines will bring in the big bucks at auction in ten years.
Wine "Collectors", on the other hand, are more likely to be wine lovers. Some, however, are in it for the staus and are cluless about the real value of what they own; which is in the enjoyment of drinking the wines with others who share in the appreciation.

I think both, they gotta love wine, in order to pick wine for a investment. People probably know how good wine is and how much it sells to want to invest in wine. So there is where the money comes in.

It has to be the wine first. You must love making it, tasting it and then sharing it. The money comes later. When people loves the taste, they'll talk and that's what makes the money; from the sales of the wine. So cheers.

Most start out for the passion of it, ending up loving the money also. No really my husband makes his own wine for the passion of it.......and it can be expensive so why not recoup some $ for something u love to do.

They are both. They invest in wine because they love it. What better way to make money than with what you enjoy!
