I know there are some groups that help recovering Catholics, and also another one that helps recovering Jehovah's Witnesses. But, what can we do, as a loosely formed group, to help the average person who has this delusional pathology?

ilufthemountains--no, very few have made the choice willingly, most were indoctrinated at a young age by their family and other authority figures.

Its really not up to us to do anything other than remaining vigilant that these nut balls don't influence our government, schools or court system with their insanity. If they want to play with snakes and believe in invisible friends, who cares. Just make sure it stays away from the normal people.

Deprogramming all that clap trap takes time, little by little, so be patient. Ignore hate mail, or send a humorous message back which I usually do. Expect to get some violations when you are pointing out something that's going to rock the boat. I think sense of humour is the key.

Death will ultimately and quickly convince "the faithful" of the error in ther belief, we need to do nothing..The good that comes from religious groups working to improve our world is justification enough to simply accept that we disagree.

I was getting ready to fire off a snotty reply until I re-read your comments and noticed the words "average person".
Christians are above average people!! LOL
By the way................ all of the Christians I know personally made the choice as adults to be professed believers.

Whenever someone says something that implies the existance of god I simply point out that there is no evidence for god's existance and offer them the chance to produce some.

I work for a charity and I see lots of churches involved but not one single organization dedicated to atheism. Never, ever, not a one.

My answer is then, put your money where your mouth is.
