Okay, i'm going to post this in both the mental health section and the religion and spirituality section, since I don't really know which it belongs in.
I've always been obsessed with theology. I started becoming completely taken in by it when I was about 7, and was amazed by the different belief systems and religions of the world. I hopped from church to church and from religion to religion, on the one hand wanting to 'settle down' into the 'true religion' and on the other hand just wanting to learn and see as much as possible.
I've just turned 18, and it's starting to seem like a burden. The problem isn't just 'finding the right religion' (although, undoubtedly, that's a part of it) but rather an unceasing power it has over my life - even my dreams are religious. My whole life it's been an almost schizophrenic thought-pattern, and I never seem to be able to escape thinking about it.
It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just who I am, and i've learned a lot, but I can't

switch off, and it's exhausting.
Even though I can see the world around me, it seems to have almost lost it's value - worldly things stop mattering when all you can think about is what's beyond that.
What should I do?

You sound far more spiritual than many people have the privilege. Remind yourself that you are still alive, still human, and still need to delve into the well-explored facets of living in a addition to pondering upon the unknown. Come down to earth on occasion, just don't be afraid to spend the majority of time as you are now: with your head in the clouds.

well I have/had the same problem. I have been told that religion is more of a hobby than a religion!
a dear friend has helped me the most by telling me that my confusion over the details over finding "the truth" is only a stalling maneuver, because if I'm confused all the time I never have to act on the spiritual truths I do know and actually have spiritual growth, like spinning in a circle, rather walking in a straight line.
When I starting to notice I'm doing it again(getting neurotic again) I'm getting better at noticing when I'm trying to figure out all the answers in my head, instead of faith
The difference is believing instead of knowing. just remember you believe, what you believe is not important, it will change as you grow.
so when you start up again just ask your self "Do I believe??"
and stop there!!

As long as you're not have thoughts about harming yourself or anyone else, I don't really think you need to do anything. Maybe the reason you haven't found the "right" religion is because God exists without religion. Religion is man made.

You are looking in the wrong places. The "true religion" is not found in a church. It is found in Scripture. Study there and get well grounded, so that when you do attend a church, you will be able to discern whether they speak the truth, or deceptions.

You're entitled to a life , of normalcy just like everybody else has , , you're entitled to be as bad as anybody you know ,, God doesn't expect you to be as good as you can be,,,, some people arn't able to be as good as you are ,, he wouldn't mind having them be as good as they can be ,, but asking you to be as good as you can be,, is like ,having the Sargeant yell at the entire platoon " Pick those knees up !" when some are dogging , bucause some are touching their chin with theirs..take it easy on yourself ,,on that day God will breath a sigh of relief.. !

The universe has definitely got your attention...in a big way...why not write about it. Sharing what you're thinking/dreaming about is a great way of getting out of your head...and, who knows....maybe it'll become a best-seller and movie!?! Hugs...and good luck!
