It was an invention by the early Catholic Church to resolve some obvious contradictions in their theology.
Tertullian is generally credited with the invention, he wrote around 200 AD.
I John 5:7 is normally quoted as the basis for the philosophy of a trinity or triune God, but that verse has been controversial for centuries since it is not in any of the earliest Greek manuscripts.

Ur right they didn't.
The New Catholic Encyclopedia states:
"The formulation 'one God in 3 persons' was not solidly established,
certainly not fully assimilated into Christian life & its profession of faith,
prior to the end of the 4th century.
But it is precisely this formulation that has 1st claim to the title 'the Trintarian dogma.'
Among the Apostolic Fathers, there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective."---
(1967), Vol.XIV, p. 299
Now knowing this; it can be said it wasn't a teaching of the Christ nor his God & Father nor the apostles...
so it must then logically, be from Satan the Devil.
According to the Nouveau Dictionnaire Universal:
"The Platonic trinity,
itself merely a rearrangement of older trinities dating back to earlier ppls,
appears to be the rational philosphic trinity of attributes that gave birth to the 3 hypostases or divine persons taught by the Christian churches.....
This Greek philospher's [Plato, 4th century B.C.E.] conception of the divine trinity...
can be found in all the ancient [pagan] religions."---
(Paris,1865-1870), edited by M Lachatre, Vol. 2, p. 1467.

There always was a Trinity. The ancient Hebrews didn't believe in it for the same reason that no one believed in the planet Pluto before it was discovered.
The Trinity is in the Bible by the way, in Matthew 28:19.

The Nicene Council in 325 AD met and decided to adopt the Trinity definition to explain the God Head (God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost). This was developed by the Catholic Church to help many of their teachings and the many Holy Texts that were in the process of being compiled into the Bible mesh. Until then many Christians ( and still some today) believe they were 3 separate beings.
The Old Testament talks about God the Father and the Messiah that is to come and the Holy Spirit only. In the New Testament the Messiah is then named as Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is often called the Holy Ghost.

It's plagiarized from the Hindu trinity. It's a concept they use to deny being polytheistic and having three Gods, as if polytheism is a bad thing anyway.

Trinity began when a group of Jewish Zoroastrians combined their mystic faith with their regional faith and a little Roman faith and behold Christianity was born.
But the insight that God is Love and that to Love is to be part of God is truly Divine.

I think the Trinity has always existed, but Jesus came to earth and we were just made more aware of that fact.

When God gave the Branch who is His Son Jesus Christ to take away the sins of the world so we could once again have a spiritual connection to God. Jesus was that perfect, unblemished Lamb of God who once and for all times put us back in right standing with God if we only believe.
