Is the Yiddish language really moribund? Or has some been revived somewhere?

How can I find and learn Yiddish and become fluent in a dialect of it? What are some of your favourite Yiddish authors?

I like Cynthia Ozick. I am looking to learn more of the Yiddish theatre and literature of the immigrants in the New World.

i think all judaic languages are in trouble except hebrew. for example, i speak cuevil (judeo-portuguese). i am one of only a couple thousand who still speaks it and the number is declining fast. if you are sincerely interested in learning yiddish, try finding info for classes at a language school like berlitz or post adds for tutoring. if you are ever interested in further conversation on jewish languages, let me know. You can find Orthodox neighborhoods all over the US, that is where you can learn Yiddish. Or you can get a book, a lot of books and software offer Yiddish as a language.

There are neighborhoods in New York and in Jerusalem where Yiddish is still used day-to-day.
