Jackie,

Slavery was viewed very differently in biblical times.......
The other issues mentioned make us break fellowship with the Lord

Don't you love how no one so far really answered your question? When questions like these are asked, it seems like you get garbled answers or Bible spouting.

Back in Biblical times there was a lot of things going on that happen today, rape, slavery, sex before marriage, adultery, etc. And I'm quite sure that people masterbated back then too. Men wrote the Bible. Need I say more.

The bible tends to focus on anything having to do with your naughty bits. Your daughter however is just property and can be sold like livestock to pay off debt.

Its a really nice religion.

I love the we are living in NT times answers. These same people tell us that God never changes. It actually makes sense that a God that would order the deaths of millions of Gentiles in the OT wouldn't put much value on the life of a daughter, but worries about the human urge to release sperm or pleasure nerves.

The NT doesn't really value women either, read 1 Timothy 2:11-15 for a 'present day' NT times depiction of women.

I'm really confused: Who sold their daughter to slavery and was that person if they did a Christian? And yes masterbation is a sin and sex before marriage is a sin and bing gay if a sin! No matter what you say it is and I'm sure you know it is deep down.

You also can't touch the skin of a pig, I believe, so the entire NFL is in big trouble.
This is a good question, but you can't even hope to get a logical answer from the believers.
Maurice, slavery wasn't "unique" to the time period, but if you mean it was OK then and not now, which makes no sense, you could use the same argument to say homosexual sex was not OK then but is OK now, couldn't you?
What is this stuff about Christians not following the Old Testament. What bible do you think Christ followed? Or was he not a Christian?
And, it's spelled "masturbate," by the way.

Is this yet another attempt to tear down straw men?

Sex outside of marriage IS a sin, according to the Bible, but so is selling your daughter into slavery!

There are accounts in the Bible in which that very thing occurred, showing the honesty of the writers, but that doesn't mean that God condoned it, it just means that it happened.

It also said that Israel was without a king, and everybody did what was right in their own eyes.

That's what happens when you take your eyes off God's guidance and start doing things your own way. Or, in the words of the Scriptures, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death." Also, "All we, like sheep, have gone astray. We have turned each one to his own ways."

So, please don't confuse reporting the facts with condoning those facts.

I'll keep this short and sweet: Christians do not follow the Old Testament law. We follow a new covenant, the old one being abolished with Christ's death, the old one being designed for ancient Israelites who followed it and stood out from the surrounding peoples.

Besides, slavery was not the same as it was in the US. It was more of indentured servitude - there were many laws to protect the slave and such.

The Old Testament law, all in all, does not apply to Christian life today. The Bible is composed of many books written by different people at different times. I hope this helps.

The Bible says its better to go out and buy a prostitute before masturbating, but personally ill masturbate 1000 times before I go out and catch 10 STDs. People take the Bible too literall; it was written as a guideline as how to live your life 2000 years ago but the times have changed and we should adapt accordingly.

You cannot sell anyone into slavery, we live in the NT. The OT
was showing how wicked mankind was and they need a
Savior/Messiah, who came as Jesus Christ.

assuming you're christian, then, i think you're supposed to , believe in the second part of the bible - the new testament - since Christians follow what Christ taught. And jesus was too cool to teach intolerence, hate, or anything about not enjoying life...so just follow what he taught.
