Bad shocks would cause cupping across the tread, so it might be a loose or broken sway bar or a loose suspension part.
Most vibration problems are the result of out of balance or out of round tires. If you've ever used "Fix a Flat" tires get vibration when the stuff pools in one spot.

If the tires are unevenly worn then i would bet it just needs a set of tires, balance and alignment.

On some cars, you can realign the rear wheels, on some you can't. The other major cause of shimmying at highway speeds is one or both of the wheels being out of balance. This is an easy and inexpensive fix, but don't bother doing it until you get the new tires. Get the shop to check on the alignment also, because that's what is causing the uneven tread wear.

you would be amazed how balancing the tire will affect the car. but from the sound of it i would get an alignment before putting on new tires because if you dont the new tires will wear just like the old ones

un balanced tires. this happend to my old focus. when i got to about 85 it would start to shake. it was the only time i noticed it and found out my back tires were horribly unbalanced. i had to get all new tires because of it!
