this is a second question to my previous one about my car. i just found out that my neighbor could be doing illegal stuff to his cars. the 92 honda accd. he sold me had a milege of 110,000 because you know when people buy cars, they look at the milege and the body car's condition, yeah anyway this is bout the milege. i don't think my car milege is not the actual milege because when i first bought the car, my neighbor had a 96 nissan maxima with a milege of 141,000 but now it is 72,000 miles. he could have done the samething to my car! it is really suspicious because of my car's condition now, because people say over milege cars are bad to drive and breaks down with all these problems.

That is going to be really hard to prove without evidence. You have to have probable cause to sue him in court. All you seem to have is a guess.

You would have a hard time proving it, and he could just claim ignorance, eg "that's how it was when I bought it." When you buy a car from a dealer, there is a federal form that has to be filled out that certifies the odometer mileage is accurate or inaccurate. There's no requirement for that when buying from a private party.

First off, how many cars, per month, is your neighbor selling? There is usually a limit, without proper license. I think here in Ohio, no more than 3 a month. And it is illegal to change the mileage of cars. Check your local laws, first, before you do anything. Then proceed.

You may be able to check with CARFAX. this car may have been involved in an accident and they may have a report on it which would have included the original milage. If so, then you can turn him in as I beleive it is a federal offense.

maybe you can sue him , but he can change out the speedometer on the car , so that the mileage don't look as bad , you can buy them on ebay or junkyards iv'e sold them my self on ebay ,but if you know for sure that he has done this then bring him to small claims court .

they have ways to find out if the odometer has been tampered with. call your local authorities and explain the situation to them and they might refer you to a company that investigates these things. then you can take him to court for selling you a car that has been tampered with and make sure you also file a police report stating that fact.
