I am looking for a destination wedding, but not Vegas or the Islands. I am looking for more of a resort situation where the guests will have a ton of things to do. Our family is very "regular". We like playing badmitton, volleyball, spades, swimming, dancing, eating, etc. We're not high siditty, but I would still like it to be nice with a lot of things to do. Our guest list would probably be around 50 people, hopefully : ) not more than that. I really am looking for a fun weekend experience for my family that is very interactive, and not too expensive for them. I don't want a "dry" reception, but a lot of my future husbands family doesn't drink, gamble, or anything else they feel blasphemous, although they don't judge. I just want them to have plenty of activities as well. Also, we want activities for children. And I don't want my guests to have to get a passport prior to so it needs to be in the US.

I don't have a particular area in mind, most of our family is spread throughout the country. I guess I should have expressed the idea that I would like information from people who have done this. I live in upstate NY and would like to not be in the northeast. My budget will be about $10K for the venue and reception.

What area do you like? Where in the country would you prefer? Thinking ski resort or golf and spa?
Everything you mentioned sounds very outdoorsy so what month are you thinking about? Do you have a budget?

Consider the mountains. There are many areas in the Appalachians that are beautiful, great scenerary with tons of hiking and canoe/kayaking.

There is a fabulous resort about 90 minutes outside of NYC. Mohonk Mountain. I saw it on the travel channel, but that would only work for summer.

Texas is a very active state (but I wouldn't want to do that in June or July). San Antonio is beautiful and so is Austin. The riverwalk or a lazy river tube down the Guadalupe.

Utah is a beautiful state as well. Trips to Zion and Arches Park. Lots of hiking.

When I saw badmitton and volleyball, I thought of a clam bake at the Cape. Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, that region.

Orlando/Tampa is always a great destination wedding b/c a lot of people would go to Sea World, Disney World, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens.

I think it would be wonderful to have an outdoor wedding in Yosimite or Yellowstone. So peaceful and serene, with lots of animals that you normally don't get to see.

Savannah and Charleston are great, historic towns as well. Very classical and elegant. Aquariums and lots of culture. I don't know if it involves as much nature as you like though.

The US is a huge country and with no more detail than that, the choices are limitless. You could even rent a house on a beach and set up a volleyball net. Someplace like Myrtle Beach. I feel you could get better answers if we at least had a region of the US to focus on.

Since you live on the East Coast.... how about your destination being west of the Rockies? San Diego, San Francisco, Colorado.... all the high-end hotels will have some sort of resort/golf-sport packages that your family will enjoy.

How about Niagara Falls or the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania? We live nearby the Poconos, and there are many family-friendly resorts there that have lots of activities like horseback riding, dancing, swimming, etc...

This is the place for you! It is wonderful and the weddings there are beautiful. Look under "Plan Events," and "Weddings," they have very affordable packages for 50 people.
