I am so glad I was not told it was not for today...I didn't know I wasn't supposed to do it,,,so when I was filled with the Holy Ghost, back in 1980. I spoke in tongues...I am amazed at the number of Christians Churches that find this somehow, to not be Christian...Do they read the Book of Acts? Do they ever get past the fruits of the spirit and talk about the gifts of the spirit? Do they ever read Chapter 10 and understand it's meaning.
1 Cor 14:39 (KJV) Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and FORBID NOT to speak with tongues. ?
These churches will answer to God for teaching their poeple to ignore the moving of the Holy Spirit...
"44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God."
Not only do the Gentile believers here speak in tongues when they receive the Spirit, but the scripture shows us that the reason Peter and the other Jews knew that they had received the Spirit was because they spoke in tongues (v. 46).
Now this is significant. Most people today believe that there is no outward sign when someone receives the Spirit, that only an inner change takes place. Well, as much as I might like to believe that, it is not what we find in scripture. In every occurrence we find an outward manifestation.
...Acts19th chapter, Paul asked the question to the disciples of John the Baptist, Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? ...
I ask the same of you...Have you received the Holy Ghost since you beleived?
I can take you to the place and tell you the Month, day, year, and time.......Can you?

In the scriptures it said in the latter days speaking in tongues, healing will cease .The word of the lord stay in part. Personally I do not believer speaking in tongues is for today. Satan the devil can fool many in to thinking they are receiving the Holy Spirit in Baptisms. There is one Lord and one Baptism. Not two. One place in the bible the follower of Jesus said Did I baptize in your name ? Did heal in your name . Jesus said get behind me Satan you are no part of mine. I might get the wording wrong. There are pagan rituals that get their selves all work up emotional that words comes out in excitement that sound like tongues. When I first heard people speak in tongues I thought this is not right. I do not believe speaking in tongues is a sign of receiving the Holy Spirit. Water baptism is when you receive the Holy spirit. You are baptize in
the name of the Father, The Son and the Holy spirit Water Baptism is one Baptism.

Some groups claim that they do...
However... they typically don't speak in tongues in a manner that meets the biblical description.
In every case of biblical tongues... the speaker was understood by other people DIRECTLY, without interpretation. (paraphrased) from Acts: "I hear him in my own language"
There is no support for "speaking in tongues" when all present speak a common language as their primary one.
I have heard of a couple of cases where people were able to be understood by each other when neither spoke the same language...
The "pentacostal" gibberish... is just that. gibberish. Its all show and no substance.

I've heard of it in medical miracle articles, someone waking up speaking a different language. Speaking in tongue is speaking a foreign language without having studied that language. It is not gibberish, that is simply irrational and illogical. God doesn't give stupid gifts like speaking gibberish. The gift was given so those at Pentacost could travel the world and spread the word, which they did. Like I said, God does not give stupid gifts.

When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable. 1 Corinthian14:4. You cant be built up as a christian without this experience. It cuts across every group that are genuinely Christian. Yes, I speak in tongues alot.

They babble in baby talk in some fundamentalist "born again" churches.
Of course it lacks the qualities of a real "tongue" (language), as there is no syntax, grammar, or vocabulary, and it is not reproducible. People just believe they are speaking spiritual language because they want to validate what they believe.
