I am having my wedding reception in a hall of a church that is basically a basketball court. I want to make the room more romantic and hide the basketball hoops by making it look tent like with a canopy of lights. Any suggestions would be great!

White lights-either the plain tree type or clear rope lighting works too. LOTS LOTS LOTS of netting or tulle to drape the entire room in. Start the tulle as a big wad in the center of the room (on the ceiling) and drape it to the edges and then attach it to the walls, or down the walls. You will basically do the same thing with the lights. This is a very time and money consuming task, so do some checking around and see what you can find! Congrats and good luck!

One thing that looked awesome at a wedding on tv. She had made the a wide black frame. Put lil hooks in it (like those screw in hooks that you hang things from the ceiling in) in. Then take christmas lights and string them vertically around the hooks. Behind the tulle it almost looked like a waterfall or something. Gorgeous and very inexpensive to make. Buy a thicker than tulle shimmer fabric. usually its less expensive and it will cover more than the sheer tulle.

Does the basketball goals suspend from the ceiling. If so keep them down and drape the fabric through the basketball goals. If they have a center hanging scoreboard, keep that lowered and it will help anchor the room with the spot the fabric meets up. However I definitely think you may need to hire someone to know how to keep the fabric up all night.

They have lights at Christmas time that are in a net and you throw them over a bush or over a tree see if someone has those. Even a rental place might and then you can drape the lights over the things you want. No one though will be looking at the basketball hoops they will be having a good time and looking at the beautiful bride, good luck!

Check with a lighting contractor in the area to see if they have any strong yellow lights that would cut down the red yet not make it look orangey. Lighting is your best way to 'coverup' walls without damaging the walls, which your venue probably would not allow anyway (nails, tape, etc.)

use chicken wire... and string white christmas lights through the chicken wire.. you can also use netting through out the wire and tuck in the lights here and there to hide them and make then not so glaring bright. then hang the chicken wire on the ceiling--- if you need to drop it lower --from the actual ceiling use floral wire or picture frame wire to drop it to the height you want.

You might want to contact a decorator for that one. I had the same idea and I have to use a professional company because it costs less than doing it myself and they have all the equipment necessary to acheive that look.
