Cymbalta is very good.
If an antidepressant makes you agitated, perhaps you should be evaluated for Bipolar disorder. SSRIs tend to make bipolars manic, which presents as the type of agitation that you describe. Be sure and tell you new doc of your agitation under the antidepresant. If you are bipolar and SSRIs make you agitated, you shouldn't really be taking SSRIs. You should be taking some kind of atypical antipsychotic like Zyprexa ( makes you gain LOTS of weight and connected to diabetes), Abilify, Seroquel, Geodon or depakote that are also good for bipolar depression. Good luck!

Yes, I use SAM-e, a natural antidepressant, it really helps me so much, and has changed my life forever. I used to take Zoloft, but I felt more depressed sometimes, like I was forced to be happy, but now on SAM-e, I don't feel that way anymore. And this isn't a herm, or a hormone, it's just a molecule that all living cells produce, and it enhances the impact of mood-boosting messengers like serotonin and dopamine. It's all natural, clearly less toxic than prescription, and really has made me a different person in a completely positive way. I highly recommend it.

The problem with antidepressants is that its effect varies in each person taking it. A depressed patient may take 5+ different meds before seeing any change in mood or improvement. The newer generation of antidepressants, like Effexor and Cymbalta focus on serotonin and norepinephrine. The big problem with these newer drugs is the side effect of missing a dose or tapering off them. It's horrible, ppl have complained of 'brain zaps', problem with balance, and more. So if you want to start a new drug, read its side effects, maybe research how ppl have reacted to it.
And take care.

unfortunately my tortured soul knows way too much about this topic(LOL) everything u said sounds just like me...
sometimes the best antidepressant is a med which isnt technicaly an antidepressant at all but is used "off label".
currently i take prozac, seroqel and nuerontin...the prozac help for ocd and helps me tolerate people better, the seroquel(im not schizo or bipolar) is gold for those days when u wanna jmp out of your skin, the nuerontin is a mild antianxiety agent(and non abusive which is vital for me as i have a history of drug abuse).
m actually surprised ur doc had u on wellbutrin.....that med doesnt seem to be good for the symptoms youve described....in some people wellbutrin can make u hate people more(something im familiar with......good luck and god bless.....our f'n lives could depend on it

The anti-depression you would be prescribed can only be done by a doctor specifically for your problems. They are all the same but different. i could list half a dozen, but none may be good for you in particular, I'm sorry this isn't as helpful as you would have wanted, but honestly, I'd talk to the doc not us here on an open forum, how can we know what's best for YOU? Oh and you can forget the bible bashers god can't help!

The question you are asking
is best answered by a Dr. That is his area of expertise.
That is what you are paying him for.
It does sound as if your symptoms are running a bit wild and are shaping your life to the negative.
There are numerous medications available to address numerous symptoms. Get fully assessed. Some of medication's success is determined by trial and error. Do be willing to take what is prescribed as directed, and do make it to your appointments faithfully. This will best address your condition.
A thing you can do that will really help both you and the Dr.
is to use a notebook, writing down dates, medication dose, and what positive or negative changes you experience.

Effexor.
But you need to talk to your doctor, and probably try out a couple of different things to see what works the best for you. Different drugs work differently on different people.
