Mel Gibson gave us Mad Max.
That alone is reason enough to like him, Passion or not.

No man should be a reason to detest Christianity. Mel Gibson is a man and like all men, he isn't perfect. It is sad that he chooses to profess his Christian beliefs publicly before he takes care of his own issues! He certainly isn't the first person, nor will he be the last, that takes God's name in vain in this manner.
By virtue of his fame, Mel Gibson has influence that he should exercise great care in using. In I Timothy 3, Paul discussed the requirements for anyone that wants to be an "overseer" or a "deacon" for the church. Mel Gibson does NOT meet those criteria and thus, he should not be holding himself out as a representative of his church. But he does, and for that, he will answer to God some day. As for me, I think he's a great actor but I don't look to him for spiritual advice nor would I look to him as an example of how to live a Christian life!

No, he's a good reason to detest Catholicism. JUST KIDDING JUST KIDDING.
Really, Mel Gibson is a good reason to detest alcoholism, drunk driving, Hollywood, masochism, and...well...Mel Gibson. I actually thought the Passion was well made, apart from the whole beating scene.
Is Joe Stalin a good reason to detest all atheists?

No. Mel Gibson is a good reason to detest Mel Gibson.
But superstition is a good reason to detest superstition, as well.

Not at all. Why base your opinion of an entire religion, thousands of years old, upon the opinions of a Hollywood actor and his movie? Gimme a break.
If you don't like Mel Gibson, so be it. I loved the Passion, and I don't give a hoot what he said about Jews. He's a gifted actor, and I enjoy his work.
End of story.
EDIT: To the person below me, Catholics Christians.

No, because that is a generalization. I'm gonna use an example from a response I saw earlier because the woman really made a point: Some men are rapists, so should women hate every single man on this planet? You have to remember that people who practice a certain religion aren't all the same.

I would say no. He is just one bad apple. I do not judge the whole of Christianity based on Mel Gibson.
There are plenty of other reasons to feel negatively about Christianity.

Someone is 'bored' !! What a simplistic and irrelevant question.
So, here's a successful actor and director, who has been battling alcoholism; but had the interest and passion about Christ's passion - to depict it in a movie.
Subsequent to the movie, he relapsed into heavy drinking; and had a 'rant' in front of a couple of L.A. cops. In the rant, he dissed the jews. Big dam deal !!
Did you know that he was advised to take a line out of the movie??? Which line, you ask: the one wherein the jews around the cross yelled, "crucify Him, let His blood be on us and our children". So, if the man gets drunk and rages at the jews one time; so what!!! Jesus cursed them as unworthy forever more. Next, in your boredom, I imagine you'll say that Jesus' act was reason to hate Him. Go look up insipid.
