They wish they were that decent.

No - most of them aren't good enough to be Ned Flanders. He at least means well and does good deeds and truly has God in his heart. I'd take a bit of Ned Flanders over a hard core bible thumper any day.

No.

Some of the deeply religious people I know are really decent folks I really like; they go about dealing with the not-so-moral realities of our world rather more intelligently than ned usually does.

The others, well, I think even Ned would critizize them for putting the fun in fundamentalism.

"Stupid Flanders" is a much deeper character than many religious nutcases. Yeah, Neddy falls for all the religious claptrap, from baptising others' children to supporting creationism, but he's still a genuinely nice person who takes Homer to a ballgame and never refrains from serving guests a nice, imported beer.

In real life, I have known religious nutcases who were much worse (e.g. the guy at my parents' church who declared teaching Greek mythology in schools to be evil), and they are generally much, much meaner than Ned Flanders.

If only all Christians were as awesome as Ned Flanders I would not have such a big problem with Christianity.

While I believe stereotypes are certainly based on some reality, no "stereotype" is accurate. You can't pigeonhole Christians like that, any more than you can pigeonhole all muslims as being terroristic. It's a naive way to look at it.

Yes, but he's not an accurate stereotype of a Christian from what I've heard (I don't watch the show).

maximum of those stereotypes are according to fact, yet exaggerated. i think of each grownup is accustomed to or has popular somebody who's rather like previous Ned. you does no longer could pass to u.s. to discover one. i understand somebody who appeared plenty like him whilst the Simpsons caricature first looked, yet did no longer act that way.
