Hi there,
My daughter will be three next week, but wont go to school until next year. I am home with her now to get her ready for school. I spend a lot of time trying to keep her busy.
- I took in daycare. She learns to share and they keep each other entertained.
- Read, we read lots of books
- Play games to learn letters/numbers/colours in a fun way
- Draw/colour/crafts - simple
- Play Doh
- Paint
- Time flies while outside. A kiddie pool. Water table (which can be a tub of water), sandbox, and so on. Or a local park. Even kick a ball back and forth.
- Bake together
- Baths - they play and get clean, but always supervised of course. :)
- Join a playgroup - they can make friends and be active
- PC games that are good for their age. Can't hurt to start them on that! Fact of life now. LOL
All the best. I know they are active and busy. Sometimes exhausting. LOL

Depends on what he enjoys!
My son has no interest in coloring or anything else artistic.
On the other hand, put him out in the garage with the baseballs, basketballs, lacrosse sticks, roller skates, soccerballs, volleyballs, air hocket, etc and he'll go all day long!
He also enjoys the arcade at the mall, which is nice for rainy or wayyy too hot days. He loves the Skeeball game!
Today he played playdough, and now its all over the place. That activity lasted about an hour and now there is one huge mound of multicolored dough on the kitchen table,, with about 7 empty playdough cups.

You could start homeschooling him. Lots of moms do.
But I kind of get the idea that you want him to be busy while you take a break, yes? My kids loved the interactive educational games on the computer. My son loved dirt, sand, etc. We bought Tonka trucks and he'd stay outside all day if we'd let him. You could always pull out a craft book and let him do a craft every day, but again that takes your effort. If you don't mind sitting outside, small pools and slip 'n' slides are a blast. My son loved Hot Wheels, legos, k'nex, squirt guns.
Have a fun summer!
