My wife and I began the New Mayo diet plan last Wednesday. Other than breakfast, which amounts to only three strips of bacon, two eggs, and a glass of grapefruit juice, the other meals are limited to certain foods, but you can eat until you're filled. I've lost ten pounds in a week.

If you're interested, e-mail me at guitarpicker56@yahoo.com and I will send you the plan.

I recently lost 80 lbs myself in 2.5 months, what I would suggest is going to this website, Fitday.com, and logging in your food to get an idea of how many calories you take in each day. Next you need to find out how many calories you burn each day. For example a 200lb man will burn about 3000 calories a day doing just seated activity and sleeping 8 hours a night. You have to also not that there are 3500 calories in a pound. Soooo in the mans case if he eats 1700 calories and does nothing but seated activity he can find out how many lbs he will burn in a week. For this paticular day you would do this 1700-3500=-1800 calories. Lets say he continues this trend for a week, -1800x7=-12600..... -12600/3500= -3.6. So he would have lost 3.6 lbs this week. So I recommend you figure out how many calories per week you can have to facilitate the weightloss you want. Furthermore, you should try out weight lifting and running if you have the facilities. There are many good sites out there for the beginner in these exercises. A good example of a beginner run plan an be found here, http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml. Lastly, you should subtract calories burnt exercising (I.E running) on top of your metabolic lvl (I.E light seated activity 18hours, sleep 6 hours) and remember that you should get at least 1200 calories a day using the FDA's food pyramid. Good luck!

Excess weight or obesity is by far the number one health concern in this country. Sixty percent of Americans are either overweight or obese, including over 20 percent of teenagers. All are at risk for serious physical and emotional health problems.

Over three-quarters of obese adults, for example, suffer from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, coronary heart disease, diabetes or osteoarthritis. Nearly 40 percent have more than one of these conditions. They are also at risk for stroke and cancer. There are over 300,000 deaths per year from weight related causes.

Body Mass Index or BMI is a good way to determine if you are carrying too much weight. The BMI is based on your height and weight, but it gives a better estimate than the older ideal body weight tables. Click here to calculate your BMI.

Although there are many general causes for weight problems, the most responsible self-empowering one is that you’re simply eating too many calories for the amount of energy you’re expending. To control your weight you either have to decrease your calories or increase your exercise or some combination of the two. On and off dieting will not take care of the problem. Maintaining a healthy weight is a matter of day by day conscious control of both the amount and types of foods you eat and the level of physical activity in your life.

First of all do not diet it isn't safe and usually if you go back to your old eating habits you will probably gain the old weight.

Eat plenty of healthy foods following the food guide pyramid

No junk food and watch the calories you eat when making choices

Get some exercise, you lose weight from shopping, sleeping, swimming, and all kinds of sports.

Don't think of it as a diet think of it as a challenge or a healthy life style

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Safe weight loss is anywhere from 1/2 to 2 pounds a week. It comes from consistent effort. I recommend the book,"The Everything Nutrition Book." It has all you will ever need to eat healthily and lose weight. If group therapy is your cup of tea, I recommend Weight Watchers.

The best way to burn fat and not build muscle is to do sprints. Look at sprinters compared to longevity peeps. Do plenty of running and biking sprints (alternating nightly) and eat a well balanced diet. Keeping low on calories and sodium. Also, drink plenty of water because your gonna sweat alot of it out.
