Zoom, Dial-a-Flight, Canadian Affair, Ceefax pages on TV. Weekend Sunday papers. Often the best deals are made a long time in advance or at last minute, how flexible can you be in your travel arrangements. Often the different companies are sourcing from the same airlines. Even after getting a quote it's worth trying to shave a bit more off the price by going back to one of the others and trying a price match tactic having reduced the actual price you've found by a little bit yourself - but don't overdo it and get greedy ! , even the local travel agent in the high street might try to offer a little extra deal once they know you've done your home work. You need to remember the budget luggage allowance is one suitcase max 20 k's although in fairness a 'little bit over' might not attract a penalty charge, the charges are fairly stiff and vary from airline to air line. Hand luggage, one piece and a ladies handbag counts as one item. Also the in flight service varies, Thos. Cook charge you for all, inc. soft, drinks ( except free water if you ask for it. ) , Air Transat give complimentary soft drinks. Try looking at Martin Money Saver, a consumer site that has loads of good ideas. You can save a little bit by taking pot luck on what seat you get when you book in as opposed to prebooking your seat, there is a supplementary charge for the extra leg room seats, and a lesser extra fee for other reserved seat positions.

Flyzoom are dirt cheap and you get free meal, booze etc in it. We flew back with Air Canada (but got a Thomas Cook version of it) and there was no blanket, no pillow, freezing, crap food and no glass of wine, oh and the staff were rude. No blanket and no pillow on a 9hour, overnight flight is just cheap - don't go with them! Flyzoom on the other hand were amazing and the staff were hilarious.

Zoom and Globespan are supposed to be doing a code share but I'm not sure, There is also (ugh) Air Transat, but in their defence they have updated their equipment and my last flight with them to Cuba wasn't that bad, LATE but not that bad. Ryan air is supposed to be running flights to JFK sometime next year but you will have to wait for that.

Check what airlines fly to/from where you need to go and call the airllines to see if they offer a student discount.
Beyond that try, priceline, orbitz or travelocity websites.
