My 3 year old never had a mosquito bite until about 2 months ago, when she got one on her upper arm. I didn't think much of it and when she woke up the next morning it was the size of a quarter. I thought it was pretty big, but by the time I picked her up from daycare, it was about the size of a golf ball and really hot to the touch. I took her to the dr, who put her on antibiotics. Well she came home from daycare yesterday with many mosquito bites (after using repellent with deet 2x within the afternoon)and they are all swelling up again. Do you think she is allergic? Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions. They aren't swollen as bad as last time, but I am hoping I can figure something out before they get that bad.

i just took my four year old to the er friday. (doc was closed) they said over reaction of hystemines, and all his white blood cells rushing to the area. I had to give him benedryl all weekend and cold compresses. It was under his left eye. I picked him up from daycare and his eye was swelling halfway shut. So, yes, it is an allergic reaction. I use cutter or deepwoods huntsman (i think. when i get home i will check for you) (always with deet),. My mother has always used 100% deet oil or extract whatever it is. I NEVER use off! they are too perfumy and dont work.

Yes totally. I'm horribly allergic to them and always have been. Eating garlic and Marmite is supposed to keep them away, but I just cover up most of the time when they are around. Vile things.

Sounds like she is very allergic. I would first ask her doctor and let him know how she is swelling up with the bites. Don't wait for more bites, call now.

She probably is, my mom and brother both are and I get pretty nasty reactions from them. Try keeping her inside when they are most active (early morning and early evening) also if you have her take one clove of raw garlic and/or some brewers yeast every day she won't taste as good to them (sounds creepy I know). People who eat lots of sugar are more targeted than people who don't.
