I found cute wedding invitations at www.vistaprint.com for about one-fourth what other wedding invitations cost at other places. Do you think that it is cheap of me to go that route? I just cannot rationalize invitations that cost $5 a piece that people throw away in the end. I just want friends and family to know where and when it is. I also am having people RSVP by phone or a special email account I set up for our wedding. Your thoughts please...

I agree that it is ridiculous to spend $5 an invitation. I don't think it is cheap of you to get the invitations from vistaprint. Get what you like, it is your day. The wedding comes and goes so fast and majority of the time it puts people into debt. Do what is best for you and your fiance. Congratulations and Best Wishes.

It's not 'cheap' at all. And if they look just as nice, no one will ever know the difference, nor should it matter to them anyway. I'm printing my own invitations on patterned cardstock I bought at Walmart, and some emerald green ribbon. It cost me $35 for 100 invitations (no counting postage, of course).

I think the phone/email account is very nice, because it will save you the postage of RSVP cards, which people often don't mail back anyway.

After reading the other responses, I think I would also avoid that website. I don't know about you, but I can't afford to throw away $15.00 every month.

$5 a piece?!?!?! You were getting ripped off to begin with!!

I looked around and found a lot of places that had invites for around $1 each. I like your suggestion and you should definitely tell other brides about that when they are looking for low-cost invites.

www.annswedding.com
www.now-and-forever.com

were a few that I looked at. Yes definitely have them send you a sample one but I loved my invites. They were exactly what I wanted. If you are having a small wedding of less than 50 people of course you can make them yourself. But if you are making a lot of invites (I think I ordered 250) it is cheaper to order than to make them yourself.

I think RSVP by phone is a smart idea--especially since you'd have to call those that didn't RSVP anyway.

I totally agree with you! There's not point in buying expensive invitations that people lose or throw away. We bought nice paper from Kelly Paper: Chocolate brown cardstock that was in the clearance section, nice ivory paper and envelopes all for $80. Then we went to the Fashion District and bought really nice blue satin ribbon for 20 cents a yard.

And like you, instead of response cards, we are having our guests either call us or RSVP on our website. If you have a Mac, you can set up a website really easy that has all your wedding information on it. The only thing you have to buy is a domain name, and that's cheap.

I printed mine in a non traditional way to save money as well and everyone comments on how unique and original they are. Kudos to you on saving that way! My only warning is to keep in mind that you usually get what you pay for when you order things at a lesser cost... but I say go for it. They will serve the purpose and odds are no one will even notice the difference.

As for the email/phone reply...it might be just as easy to use a program like Microsoft Word to print out some simple reply cards. Some people really prefer the opportunity to mail their reply over calling or emailing. Just a thought.

LOL Seriously whatever you do, do not, I repeat do not order from this company. I 1's ordered business cards from this company and I was really disappointed with the cards, the letters were smudgy, some letters were cut off, shipping took forever and to top it all off they enrolled me some type of "Rewards Program" without me knowing, I payed $15 a month for like 4 months before I noticed (Don't really check credit card statements)Remember, you get what you pay for. Besides you don't need stress during your wedding time, just pay the extra money.

If the invitiations still look professional and not sloppy, you should definitely do it! Save a few bucks too. You can also print out your own invitations. You just need to buy fancier paper, RSVP cards and envelopes, and own a color printer. But if this website does it for cheaper, then by all means do it!

Go to the local craft store, they all have a wedding aisle. They should have some packs of invitations. You can go home and type up your own. I think it is like 25 bucks for 25 of them. They are simple, but classy. You can also check Target and Walmart for these items too.

I used VistaPrint for our save dates, rehearsal dinner, and I just received our thank yous (i did the photo magnets. they are so cute!) today from them. They do a great job for a great price! I wish I did my invites with them too. It would have saved a lot of $. I will definitely use them in the future.

FYI- I ordered them Monday afternoon and got them at 10 this morning. I paid for the 1 week delivery. Depending on when you need them I wouldn't pay extra for fast delivery. They are so fast anyway.

They sent me a coupon for 25% off my next order. You can see if it works for you. Here is the link: www.vistaprint.com/magsave

Good luck and congrats!

Go to Walmart. In the craft section they have invitations there. Pick up a box and take them home. Type up what you want on your computer and print it on the invitation. They have really nice ones. You can also try Target , Michaels and AC Moore.
