Okay, so I am a student and I just got my own apartment. Now furnishing this place alone between the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom was expensive enough. Now when it comes to the electronics I wanted a big television and lots of fancy equipment. But parents said heck no out of the question, stick to your books. Now I really can't afford it esp with tuition at 60k a year, but then Rent-A-Center occured to me.

Has anyone ever gotten things from there, I was thinking about a huge LCD or plasma, maybe another computer and audio equipment. Do their things have like big labels on them so that everyone would know its Rent-A-Center? and does anyone know or might have a clue what the monthly cost of this stuff would be?

Do NOT go to Rent a Center. For a $2000 TV you will end up paying close to $4000 when it's said and done. Plus, if you default they will take it and you are left with no TV and none of the money you put into it.

If you're on a budget you should think about going projection. You can get a decent HD projector for a lot cheaper than a new TV, plus you can make it as big as you want.

Projector $500
Screen $100
Audio $500

That's $1100 for a TV that could be as big as your biggest wall. You'll just have to put some work into and do it yourself but it is easy!

feel free to email me if this is an option and I'll try to help

Where is this money coming from?? If parents, then you should stick with the books. Fulfill your fantasies when you have a job and your student loans are paid off.
No it doesn't have a big tag on it, it has a little tag.
But the cost over a year or so is about the same as buying which really adds up. Typically, long term rental costs about 10% of the cost of the equipment per month.
They don't keep their rates a secret - get retail prices on a couple of things and compare.

Do the math! Obtaining stuff from Rent-A-Center is *much* more expensive than buying it on credit (also not advised), or putting it on layaway! Make some sacrifices; cut back on your expensive expectations! Don't try to live a "champagne life on a beer budget"!

Listen to your parents! They really *do* know what they are talking about!

Is you are intelligent enough to attend college; you certainly ought to be smart enough to figure out that renting stuff from Rent-A-Center is *entirely* cost-prohibitive! Only poor managers of their own finances rent things they can't afford through R-A-C and the like, get loans of money through check advance stores at exorbitant interest rates, do not pay their credit card bills off every month, and play lotteries - all of which they cannot afford!

I agree to stay far away from RAC and Rentway. I got my Panasonic surround HTIB from RAC and they said fair market value was $500. I ended up spending over $1000 and it still wasn't paid off when I found the exact same model (SC-HT650) at Wal-Mart for $296. Since I still owed more than that in weekly payments I just let them have it back and put the other on layaway.
