They're really rather different, but you're right, they're both (generally speaking) based on utter nonsense.

You could actually argue that even atheism is a faith as it relies on believing that there is no supreme being of any sort, but without being able to actually prove that.
I don't know why the different religions can't leave each other alone. If you want to believe there are fairies at the bottom of your garden or that there are little green men living on Mars then why not ? Provided you're not affecting anyone else...
And that's where the trouble starts, because most organised religions take it upon themselves to 'educate' others into following their particular beliefs. Not surprisingly the end result is sometimes at best annoyance, at worst a war starting.

I went out with Scientologist for about 9 months and she was a very switched on lady and could only give her proper respect for that. However, I couldn't buy into the credibilty of the books of L Ron Hubbard nor the equipment she used; the circuit was no more than that for a cheap galvanometer so that wasn't going to convince me either..There's just so much against Scientology and if you want the lowdown for yourself, google Operation Clambake.

Christians are not in the same boat with Scientologists. Scientology is based wholly upon a FICTIONAL book, while Christianity is based on text and tradition. The sacred tradition is what proves our point beyond reasonable doubt. Al crazy things in the BIble (worldwide flood, raising from the dead) all have such based and proof in tradition that you can not deny the light of Christ. The light of the Christ child be with you this Christmas season.

I respect most religions, but not scientology.
Why? I firmly believe that many people in the religion know it is a farce.
Why? Quote by L. Ron Hubbard:
"Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion."
It's a joke, pure and simple. At least people really BELIEVE in Christianity, even if it is false, which I hope it isn't. But for your very founder to admit he only made the religion for money purposes, well, says a lot.

You are right to some extent, however Christianity was invented two thousand years and it has become deeply entrenched in our society. It is considered so normal that its followers are literally unable to see how ridiculous it is. Scientology, however, was blatantly made up about forty years ago by L Ron Hubbard who was a notorious loon. And the secrecy surrounding Scientology and what its followers actually believe only adds to its silliness.
Suzanne: Are you saying that every TRUE christian has the "ability" to hallucinate?

There are over 2,000 so-called `gods` in this world - or out of it, take your pick - and they all claim to be the `one and only true god.` Load of rubbish but lots of people have tiny, untelligent minds anyway so it can only be expected.
Some peoples, tribes, red Indians, believe gods exist in mountains, rivers, rocks - anything which they cannot explain but as long as it sounds good, and as there is no feasible believable, rational answer they let it go at that. It is a simple solution and it pleases simple minds.
You must have heard the expression: "Simple things please simple minds."
Personally, I have nothing against religious people, but what does annoy me is the lack of intelligence in some people when the real truth is obvious but their brainwashed minds cannot conceive that. Either that, or they are afraid of the wrath which their `god` will wreak upon them if they try to change and found to be wrong!!

As an atheist, one thing I often point out to my theist critics is that they too are atheists - there are hundreds of gods that Christians don't believe in, for example! I just disbelieve in one more god than they do!

First I do not berate any other religion. Secondly the proof of God is all around us. Many things you can explain away with science I agree but for many wonders out there you need faith. Not everything can be explained by evolution (I admit a lot can) or many other scientific ideas. There is evidence of design all around us, there will never be any substantiated proof of God I admit that. But there is not substantiated proof of many things we readily believe in this world. God Bless.

First of all, the Church of Scientology does not disapprove of or tout on any religion. They do not tread into The 8th (or god) dynamic. That is for each individual to decide. It is all about improving ones conditions in life. Before making a decision on how any religion operates, you should first learn what is really going on because the media doesn't do a good job of anything but making a mockery of things. Check out your local mission for the church of Scientology if you want a more refined definition of what it all stands for. Thank You!
