In the situation you are describing, no I wouldn't apologize. I'll take a beating before a cow before a bunch of thugs. Normally though, say your friend demanded an apology for some slight (imagined or otherwise). Even though you didn't mean to hurt your friends feelings, your friend is still hurt, and therefore you apologize.

It's totally up to you. I don't feel you should apologize for something that is not your fault. It also depends on the situation that someone ask you to apologize for. Just remember to respect your elders.

PLEASE Martha! an apology is a short I'm sorry and that's it. why get hurt over it? I'll say it right now I"M SO SORRY. doesn't mean you have to care or mean it. I say it all day long at work. Sometimes a customer will say "I don't think you're really sorry" Then I tell them, no I'm not, but I'm being polite. :-) Happy Apologizing!!!

If its your parents - then apologize. You are under no obligation to apologize to anyone else unless it is your choice.
