The slot allow the sound from the rear of the speaker driver (woofer) to be used for reinforcing the bass. The alternative design is a sealed enclosure (no ports). Typically, a ported design is more efficient (requires less wattage) than sealed.

Hope this helps!

Atrend E12Sv B field series 12-Inch unmarried Vented Subwoofer Enclosure is the 1st pre-fab subwoofer field i've got ever used and that i'm inspired with its high quality. Atrend makes use of a few respectable high quality factors and tunes the field to make a 12" sub hit very, very stressful. As for the different comments that point out a glue scent whilst the field gets heat, i can't say that i've got observed something in any respect even after hours of operation. in case you do not have the time, funds or inclination to construct your guy or woman sub field, it is an extremely welcome selection.

The port allows the sound energy from the back of the speaker to exit the box. The design must keep the sound in phase with the sound from the front of the speaker.
