Actually, I have 12 (and I am definately NOT a crazy cat lady). I have been rescuing and fostering cats for several years, and have kept the "unadoptables":
Amrita - 16 years old (arthritis)
Ember - 16 years old (hyperthyroidism)
Pepe - 13 years old (dumped as a kitten)
Tomas - 13 years old (senior lady moved to hospital)
Tom - 14 years old (skin disease)
Gucci - 11 years old (owner too sick to care for her)
Fluffy - 13 years old (malled by a dog, terrified of everything)
Mowgli - 8 years old (beaten and left for dead)
Belle - 14 years old (abandoned by owner at vet office)
Buddy - 3 years old (feral kitten left behind)
Angel & Andrew - 7 mths (found - dumped in the park)
I work full time, and give the cats the best food money can buy (Wellness, Eagle Pack) and clean their boxes several times a day. I live in an apartment across from the superintendent and have never had a complaint about the smell (it helps that I wash the floors on weekends).
I've tried the electric scoopers, but they leave a lot of little clumps behind. I have 5 litter boxes and bought this to try it out. If it works for you, great!
As long as you keep your cats clean and healthy, you mom should have nothing to complain about.
P.S. I grew up in a home where we were not allowed any pets, and look what happened to me! My brother and sisters all have pets (and kids) - I guess we're making up for a deprived childhood.

LOL! Your cats Tucker & Lola look exactly like my cats Taz & Shadow! Cool. Your kitty Angus has very pretty markings.
I would give you links to their pictures but I really don't know how. :(
Shadow: She's my 3 yr. old All Black Kitty who my mom and I found at a local car wash (she was only 5 wks. then). She had ear mites, respiratory problems, worms, etc. My family took her to the vet and helped her get better and the rest is history! Shadow is only sweet and cuddly to particular people though. She only lets my mom, my brother, my aunt, and me touch her. Everyone else is totally off limits I guess. For over a year she wouldn't let anybody touch or even look at her except me. That's why she's technically considered to be MY cat. All in all Shadow is Great!
Taz: He's my moms 1 1/2 yr. old Brownish Grey Tabby who we adopted from our local SPCA last July (he was 4 mths. then & Shadow wasn't too pleased). We named him Taz because he is an absolute Spazz cat! He's soooooooo crazy all the time. But all in all, he can be sweet one second and then awfully mean the next. Taz is just sooooooo Nutty!
