Not at all although the MMA type fighting and training may be too much for you depending on what kind of shape you are in and how good your health is or has been. That type of training and fighting requires so much more and so other types of martial arts like the traditional stand up ones may be a better choice for you. Injuries are less frequent in those martial arts and in many of the tournaments they have and the training does not take as much of a toll on your body. Not only that but on the NASKA and NBL national tournament circuit they have a division that is 35-42 for competition as well as a 42-49 and 50 and above division now for all those that still want to compete. You are also starting to see older divisions in the smaller, local, and regional tournaments since there are more people each year still competing as they get older.

It is absolutely possible. I'm living proof. At age 33 I began studying Karate and I am currently a 2nd degree blackbelt. At age 36 I began studying Kickboxing and I compete in competitive tournaments every month.

When I used to teach they we would have people over 60 years old. When it comes to competitions they are usually split up by ages (especially sparring). It maybe something like a 30+ group. But it all depends on tournament/competition.

30 is not too old! I took up karate at 47. At first the warm-ups told me just how much out of shape I had let myself become. But in a very short time I was toning up and earned my self several belts and and brand-new self esteem. I highly recommend it. You are only too old if you tell yourself you are. Good luck.

Haven't you heard? 30 is the new 20.

Take from someone who has been thrown around by a 43 year old woman who just got her brown belt.

I think it's great that you want to do that!

I say go for it! 30 really isn't that old. You may just have to practice a little more.

And that's ok :-)
