I have a 15 week old kitten whose just great, besides the horrible oder coming from his behind. I've gone so far as to baby wipe his bottom, thinking it might teach him to clean for himself. I see him clean his face and tail, but never his bottom. I've given him a bath once, but was hoping he'd learn to clean himself.

Also, we took him to the vet who says kitty is healthy. So there's nothing like that going on. I'm so confused! If he doesn't start cleaning himself, and keeps on smelling so horribly I may have to get rid of him.

Anything I can do?

Just continue wiping his bottom. He is still young, the more you do it, the more he will respond and eventually do it himself. I agree that you may need to get better food that will help with that problem. Some kittens never get to that point where they clean their butt and have to rely on us to help them. But that is what we are there for, to take care of them. Where I use to work kittens there never cleaned their butt and there was alot more on there bottom then just a smell. It is just something you have to do as a cat owner. As long as he is healthy there isn't a real reason to get rid of him. Once he continues to grow and mature he will do it himself. Just takes patience and time and learning. :)

I introduced abode a kitten too early - mom were hit via a motor vehicle... he did no longer do the grooming element, the two. I actually gave him a bath another day (which he initially enjoyed if I have been given interior the tub with him) finally somebody reported getting an older cat. pungent cat did no longer right now %. up on grooming conduct, however the hot cat could carry him down and sparkling him a minimum of. Now he's 8 and nonetheless no longer so warm on self-cleansing. If I positioned somewhat butter or tuna juice on his paws it leap starts off the licking sufficient that he will generally provide him self a bath. in any different case, I dunk him interior the tub. he remains quite pleased with it, i assume considering that i've got been doing it his entire existence....

Do you think that your kitty could have impacted/infected anal glands? The anal glands are usually expressed when the kitty has a bowl movement. Do you see a discharge or irritation around the anus? If your kitty isn't drinking enough water or if it's food doesn't have enough fiber it could cause a problem. Obese cats can have a problem with anal glands as well. Best thing to do is ask your vet.

What sort of person gets rid of a cat because of a stinky bum? There is no such thing as the perfect pet. One cat may have a stinky bum, another may pee where he is not supposed to, another may scratch the furniture, another may shed too much hair, it's part of having a pet. In fact, a stinky bum is one of the smallest problems you may have. Just wipe his butt with a wipe every time you think it is dirty. And most importantly, buy him food that makes his poop less smelly and more stiff. Normally, cat poo doesn't dirty him at all. Buy some food with odour control formula.

If your kitten has too much hair around the but, then you may need to trim it so feces don't stick to the hair. If hair is not the problem, try using a little butter or margarine to get his attention to clean himself.

Just give your kitten so time. Eventually he will get the picture and will decide that he must do it on his own. By you helping him is great..because he will learn by you. Just remember that he was use to his mother doing it for him. He will come around soon!

Did you tell your vet about this problem? It's not normal for a cat to stink that bad.

I think you are a drama queen. No pet is going to be perfect.

Just keep wiping his bottom for him. It's not a big deal. He's still just a baby. You scoop his litter box don't you? Clean up when he pukes? Wiping his bum isn't that bad.If it smells really bad, then you need to change his food. If he's sticking his stinky butt in your face, it means he loves you!
