Don't listen to these wannabe fake *** soldiers? Ive done the training. When you get to Reception you will take a diagnostic PT test. You will need to pass with 50% to leave Reception.http://www.apft.net/maxyourapft.html. There will be alot of fat kids there. If you fail the PT test at Reception, you will go to "Fat Camp", your basically a holdover at Reception and they put you on a diet and workout regimen. You will lose weight in basic training, and don't worry about passing the PT tests either. I've seen fat kids make it through the training, one of my battle buddies was very overweight, and this happend to him. He eventually graduated. Feel Free to ask me any questions before you leave.

Going in overweight doesn't really matter. What matters is how you tape. That is where they take a series of measurements to determine your body fat percentage. You are allowed only so much. You can Google that or look at like Military.com or places like that. Trust me, you will lose it when you are in training without even trying!!! You will be fine, don't worry about it. I have seen some very overweight people who never passed a PT test except their last one get out of training!! It is all in what you put into it! And if you can run like you say you can then you will have no problems whatsoever!! Just PT your little heart out or at least let them see you making the effort to do your best and make good food choices (don't let them catch you with any sweets or anything like that!!!) and the pounds will fall away!!! Good luck and welcome to the ranks!!!

What is in your mind does not count in the military. If your recruiters believe you will be okay, then you need to be ready to work your tail off in basic. You will be amazed at how fit you will get and that 4 or 9 lbs will be history, or you will not progress. Thank you in advance for serving and pay attention to that weight.

to lawhonor: I was close to the limit and I lost a lot of weight in basic.

Do not worry about the weight. Worry about the physical activities. Woman usually gain weight at basic training.
