No, the truest Christian I ever met was a lady who lived close to us, and unable to read. But she loved to hear someone else read the Bible to her. And she could remember it word for word. I used to read to her, when I was in grade school, and didn't understand what I was reading, but she knew. I know where she is now!

Many are called or call themselves Christian, but, as the Bible tells us, a Christian is really someone who has been born again by the word of God which lives and abides forever.
It is difficult to see how that might happen if the Bible is not read or in some way received, or if it does happen, how that word of God is then not sought and lived from.
Christ declared that, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, quoting from the Bible as it then was.
What do you think? How important is the Bible for a real Christian?

You have to repent of your sins and ask Jesus into your heart to be a Christian. Reading the Bible is listening to what He has to say to you, and a way of showing your love for Him. You dont have to do it all the time to be a Christian but its a wonderful thing to do.

No. A Christian is a person who has repented of their sins and believes that Jesus died on a cross to save them from their sins. However, that is only step 1. How to live your life, how to emulate your savior, how to claim the hundreds of promises that God has given all those who believe in His son, that important information is found in the bible.
It would be sort of like opening a room that is filled with treasure, picking up a fleck of gold, and walking out, if you never study God's word.

I think it would be rather stupid to call yourself a Christian and not read the bible. That's like signing a contract you haven't read, isn't it? How do you know you want to be part of this religion if you haven't read their rules?

no a Christian is anyone who has come to the conclusion/realisation that Jesus is alive, died for your sins, and has given their lives to him in response. Everything else such as obedience is what you do in response to the overwhelming love of God for you. You don't have to read the bible, if you could get into heaven for that then Jesus would not have had to die, but it does help you to know God if you read what he says.

I would have thought so but from what I've seen on here many apparently have not. If I'm going to get involved in something I want to know all about it, and study properly.
