You CAN teach an old dog new tricks! That's a incorrect idea that keeps circulating. It is always more difficult to train a dog that is and adult dog then training them from a puppy. It's common sense. But there isn't anything that happens to the dog to make it incapable of learning after a certain age. Not sure who started this idea, but they were no expert. Probably not even a dog owner for that matter.

It's no different with humans. If a child was never taught manners, once they became an adult they'd be no fun to be around. But they could change and learn them with the right direction, it would just take a bit longer for them to "unlearn" their bad manners first.

They can, if you make sure to keep trying. But it can take longer then if they are puppies because they have already lived alot of their life and they were used to the old tricks. As a puppy they learn alot of things, and older dogs have already learned what they need to know.

They only say that because old dogs have a slow learnung rate. Thats what the myth says. But realy it is a myth. My dog is older and I am still teaching her tricks. She learns them in a day or two. It doesn't matter how young or old your dog is what matters is what you train it.

Because dogs are kind of stupid creatures in the first place, and when senility sets in it just becomes a lost cause.

the learning stage is over. i suppose it's not impossible, just really really difficult. it's like trying to learn new things when humans are old.

Because the olds tend to think all that...old are good and it's hard to change what had been deep in one's mind or characteristics.
