John 3:16. It sums up the Christian message really.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

It's usually John 3:16, a fundamental verse of Christianity, that sums up what God did through his son Jesus. If you only read one verse out of the whole Bible, this one would be in the top 5.

John 3:16-"For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in him should not die but have eternal life."

They hold it up so the TV cameras will catch it and make people curious enough to find a Bible and look it up.

Its relevance is that it is the key to salvation, eternal life, joy, healing and security in this world and the next.

It's usually John 3:16.

"For God so loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whomever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

Never seen it, never heard of it 'till now and it seems ever so slightly blasphemous.
Nobody 'gives' anything in football these days. How about 'Abandon hope all ye who enter here'?

John 3:16

16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[a] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

I don't know what relevance it has to sporting events, I guess it's come to be tradition. i don't know why they started doing it, or where.

John 3:16. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that who ever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The relevance?...it is the starting point in accepting the love of God through his son Jesus.

Nothing to do with football really......but I do appreciate the gospel message being sent to the TV every time a field goal is kicked....
