You save whatever your tax rate is, which will be less than 10%. I personally avoid tax free weekend and just wait for the items to go on sale. You are usually better off buying on sale than going for the <10% discount on the taxes.

Usually a no sales tax weekend will create much of a difference unless you are buying so much school supplies you are going to generate a real savings in sales tax. You just better off waiting for a sale to occur.

you'll save the sales tax. I've attached a link to the states that have tax free time periods, since I don't know what state you are referring to.

My wife and I are going shopping this weekend, as it's tax free weekend in MA, and we have 2 sons going off to college in the fall, so we will be using the tax free advantage to the max.

Well, most of the states that have it waive the state portion of the sales tax. State sales taxes average around 5.5%. You still have to pay the local portion of the tax in most jurisdictions.

So, if your state is "average" and you spend $1,000 on eligible purchases you'll save $55.00. I guess that every little bit helps, but it's certainly no windfall for most folks.
