It flicks from any TV channel to the scart ports and back again constantly

Unless your TV is in a demonstration mode it should not do this. If you have the manual look for a way to disable demonstration mode.

Any other reason for the TV to change inputs UNLESS a remote is involved and is not providing the right codes (such as with a universal remote) is a problem with the TV that needs repair.

Thanks to the people who answered below who have more experience with SCART connections (I had to look this up because I had not heard of it before).

Could be a couple of things. First thing to understand is that many TVs will flick automatically to the scart input when they detect a signal there - e.g. if you turned on your DVD player.

So it's probably thinking that there's a signal coming through this socket.

If you do have something connected to it, try disconnecting it -if this solves the problem then try replacing the SCART lead first, if this doesn't help then whatever is connected to that lead is causing the problem.

If there's nothing connected to it then its most likely a wiring problem inside your TV - unlikely you'll be able to fix it yourself so you'll need to get it to a repair centre.

Any device connected to a TV via scart will automatically switch the TV to that scart( AV ) input, so check any VCR / DVD etc, as well as the TV. Might be worth plugging & unplugging each component to find out which one is causing the trouble. Actually, that would be worth a try anyway, in case it's just dirt or a dodgy connection.

Some tellies detect new scart inputs, so the scart lead might be loose and is making constant connections, like abs on a car.
