and I was informed that no one really believes that when they say it.
So why do those "true christians" make that claim that others are not "true christians" if it is not pride and love of self?

Only a "true" Christian can decide who other "true" Christians are which means non of them are "true" Christians because they will never think other are better then than them.
If you follow that then you spend too much time here.....

If you hear a Christian refer to someone as NOT a true Christian, they may be referring to thier lack of commitment to worship, service to God, compassion for the needy, lack of interest in others and/or the unfocused attention they have when they are with others.

It isn't meant to be vindictive, though some may, but it is an observation of one's pretentious love of God. You may see them in church on holidays or once in awhile, but not as a commitment...it seems more like a chore to them. they won't help anyone in need or attend any events that would raise their spirit or enrich their knowledge of the Bible, because they are that passionate about Christ.

I cannot speak for everyone, but this is what I have heard from some who attend once in awhile if it fits in the schedule. But I would never judge them about it. First, it's not my place, second of all I wouldn't want them to stop coming because they are behind in church visits. That isn't what my responsibility is to God. My obligation is to seek and save the lost, not insult them when they show up.

I can't wait to get to church or bible study or music rehearsal or volunteer at the church. But not everyone has that same passion to serve Christ. Someday....

I often use that phrase but maybe i should not.
The christian religions all believe they are the true religion.
Jesus said by their fruits you will know them.
I study the bible a lot and it frustrates me when people claim to follow the bible but with their own mouths and actions show they do not.
I do not claim to know everything and i to get things wrong but i am not so blind as to ignore what is written in black and white in the bible just because a church tells me so or in is inconvenient to me

The Bible is the only reference point for identifying true Christians.
A "true Christian" is one who lives their lives in harmony with Bible principles and does their utmost to be 'footstep followers' of Jesus Christ. If a person is living a life that is contrary to what the Bible teaches, then there is no way they are a "true Christian"

Anyone can claim to be what they want, but Jesus said at Matthew 7:13-23 that his followers would be known by their fruits, verses 21-23 says, "“Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness"

Jesus also gave an identifying mark for "true Christians" it is found at John 13:35, "By this all will know you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves" You have to admit, that is lacking from many who claim to be Christians

Hello,

Nobody can say that with 100% certainty until:

1) Christ returns and lets them know who's denomination was right all along.

2) They die and meet Jesus in the next world.

3) Jesus reveals himself to the individual and tells him or her like it is.

Unfortunately we can only deal with "2" for the time being and since the dead don't talk, the question will remain up in the air for the time being,

is it true, i have no idea is it valid, of course theres no way to know either way right now, so its a possibility untill its proven otherwise its a shame that its true, so many scientists argue amongst themselves because they even disagree on theorys, i just think, what are you doing who cares what you agree on or not, your supposed to be studying what IS not what you WANT to be and the heresy, well, sadly we have that in anything or anyone who has a mind capable of seeing or thinking outside of what its been told to i think its totally valid as a statment but wont be well likd by the science field

i agree with you to an extent, but we're told to be doers of the Word, not just hearers of the Word, and i think most of the time, that's what causes people to say such things. there's pride involved too much of the time, but there's also impartial discernment.

This is a good explanation of what a true Christian is. Many people who claim to be Christians but aren't does have a lot to do with pride. As well as pleasing people instead of God........

Webster’s Dictionary defines a Christian as “a person professing belief in Jesus as the Christ or in the religion based on the teaching of Jesus.” While this is a good starting point in understanding what a Christian is, like many secular definitions, it falls somewhat short of really communicating the biblical truth of what it means to be a Christian.

The word Christian is used three times in New Testament (Acts 11:26; Acts 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16). Followers of Jesus Christ were first called “Christians” in Antioch (Acts 11:26) because their behavior, activity, and speech were like Christ. It was originally used by the unsaved people of Antioch as a kind of contemptuous nickname used to make fun of the Christians. It literally means, “belonging to the party of Christ” or an “adherent or follower of Christ,” which is very similar to the way Webster’s Dictionary defines it.

Unfortunately over time, the word "Christian" has lost a great deal of it significance and is often used of someone who is religious or has high moral values instead of a true born again follower of Jesus Christ. Many people who don’t believe and trust in Jesus Christ consider themselves Christians simply because they go to church or they live in a "Christian" nation. But going to church, serving those less fortunate than you, or being a good person does not make you a Christian. As one evangelist once said, “Going to church doesn’t make one a Christian anymore than going to a garage makes one an automobile.” Being a member of a church, attending services regularly, and giving to the work of the church cannot make you a Christian.

The Bible teaches us that the good works we do cannot make us acceptable to God. Titus 3:5 tells us that it is “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.” So, a Christian is someone who has been born-again by God (John 3:3; John 3:7; 1 Peter 1:23) and has put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8 tells us that it is “by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” A true Christian is someone who has repented of his or her sin and put faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone. Their trust is not in following a religion or a set of moral codes, or a list of do’s and don’ts.

A true Christian is a person who has put his or her faith and trust in the person of Jesus Christ and fact that He died on the cross as payment for sins and rose again on the third day to obtain victory over death and to give eternal life to all who believe in Him. John 1:12 tells us: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” A true Christian is indeed a child of God, a part of God’s true family, and one who has been given new life in Christ. The mark of a true Christian is love for others and obedience to God’s Word (1 John 2:4; 1 John 2:10).

That was a great question by the way.......
